VHSpresso design work

So one of the jobs I have at Scarecrow Video is sign-maker/designer. I come up with a lot of the signage for sections in the store. The latest super special section that we set up is the coffee cart. They named it VHSpresso and I've done all the design work for it so far. Below are some logos, signs, and etc. that I've worked on.

Here are the menu's. One for the wall behind the counter and one for the walk-up window. The one below is a manipulated back cover of VHS box art for "Runaway Train". 

Above is our stamp that we put on all the cups. Below is a web banner that I animated for the Scarecrow Video blog.

Here's proof that the signage is in place. "Like" VHSpresso on Facebook and stop by for some terrific coffee. We proudly use "7 Roasters" which is a local roaster and it's delicious.

The Grand Illusion in Seattle is bringing this legendary 4 1/2 hour cult classic movie mash-up from the 60's to their screen at the end of the month!!

I was more than happy to design this poster. And more than happy to be using a mushroom cloud in a poster. After this month, I cannot wait to see sit back and relax while this washes over me for 4 and 1/2 hours.

Psychotronic Cinema

SIFF (Seattle International Film Fest) is putting on a promising new series called Psychotronic Cinema and I was asked to come up with a logo for it.
I was happy to get gross and grimy with this. Really pulling up all my influences from Garbage Pail Kids to Max Clotfelter.
I'm also proud to have something like this associated with the upcoming Don Hertzfeldt screening featuring the artist himself.

VHS X MAS

The Grand Illusion in Seattle put on a single showing one night that honored the wonderful holiday specials and films that could still be found on VHS! Here's the poster that I created for that event! Snow flakes and lightning!!!

Meat and Potatoes in Tintin Land

Corbett Cummins puts on a show monthly called Meat and Potatoes, and I do an elaborate poster for each one. Each one has the characters Meat (arena fighter?) and Potatoes (a Agatha Christie-like detective) interacting within a new cartoon world usually based on a known cartoon franchise. The month of December we put them into a world similar to Tintin. Timely, No? Here they're looking for a mysterious man in the Tombs of the Terracotta Warriors.

Drinky Movie Show

Here's a poster for the first Drinky Movie Show put on by Derek Sheen, Travis Vogt and Kevin Clarke at the Sunset Tavern in Ballard, Washington. It was a show dedicated to comedians talking about film, presenting short films, and dissection of horrible movies.

Benefit Party for Cait Willis & Amber Anderson!

I've donated two creature paintings for the auction for local artists Cait Willis and Amber Anderson who suffered all sorts of trouble when they were in an accident with an uninsured drunk driver. The Vermillion Gallery is putting on the party with the art and there is an enormous response from the city to help these women out. If you can make it out and help out, please do!

Laff Hole '88 with Paul Merrill

Paul Merrill asked me to come up with a corny 80's VHS box like poster for his Laff Hole '88 show this March 2nd at Chop Suey in Seattle. Brought to us by the Peoples Republic of Komedy
He knows my work well from doing the Adventure Buddies and even illustrating him for the 5th episode. 
This was fun to do. Pretty different from the Adventure Buddies stuff, but still focusing on the aesthetic of the VHS box art.

Adventure Buddies - Episode 6 Revenge of the Return

Here's the last of the Adventure Buddies posters. All 6 episodes have been finished and shown. It's over for now. I'm sure there will be some DVD stuff, some story books, and soundtrack releases yet to come but for now it's done. Check out the show on Funny or Die!

TV Carnage Let's Work It Out

Pinky Carnage, the genius video mash-up artist of TV Carnage wrote to me after he saw my VIVA VHS poster and asked me to help him with a tour poster. He sent me a classic aerobic VHS cover to use as inspiration and above is what I came up with.

In Seattle, Pinky will be bringing his latest show to Central Cinema on Saturday Aug 28th at 9pm.

Adventure Buddies It Begins... Again!

So I was asked to do the poster for Kevin Clarke and Travis Vogt's newest project called Adventure Buddies. It's going to be 6 short film episodes that are parodies of chopsockie action films from the last couple of decades. Since I happily devoted myself to several of their events I was excited to work on this new one. I'll be doing a poster for each one of the episodes in different styles. This will be the most ambitious poster work I've done so far.
For this first one I went with an old stand-by (for me) and made a faux-painted VHS cover. Below show the stages I went through to get the final piece.
And for God's sake, go to the show when it opens here in Seattle at the Sunset Tavern on August 17th.

A Visitor in the Night poster

Another poster for the local short film that debuted at Seattle's STIFF festival. John Portanova and Spencer Fornaciari also do pod-casts on blogs called MacGuffin and Backroom Comics.

Friends of the Nib at Howard House

For all of December, drawing and paintings collected from 20+ artists that represent the Friends of the Nib will be on display and for sale at the Howard House Gallery in downtown Seattle.

Friends of the Nib at the Howard House

The cartoonist group Friends of the Nib has been invited to kick off December at Howard House Gallery in Downtown Seattle.

We were asked to have a show of our random sketches and unframed drawings. The show opens on the First Thursday of December the 3rd, and ends on the 5th of December.

Three days of beautiful raw and finished art with a cash and carry policy. The artworks will be moderately priced. You can buy something and take it home that day. Frame it and ship it to your mates or family members for one of the best Holiday presents ever.
