Friends of the Nib March 8th

So I'm happy to be Friend of the Nib and this is going to be great. Insane and busy! I have no idea how anyone will be able to actually draw anything of quality, but... it should be checked out. I'd like to quote Tom Dougherty here because he has said it the best so far:
"Larry Reid* has mounted a Friends of the Nib-branded event at the Fantagraphics Store in Georgetown, South of Seattle proper. Apparently, it will be a drawing "jam" open to the public, who are all invited to participate. Space is at a premium down there, so if you're planning on being part of the "jam", I'd advise you to hightail it down there as early as your Dad will let you borrow the car. Admission is free, and there is a bar around the corner where you can get a drink or two. Seriously: arrive early and beat the crowds. Both of these guys are legendary talents, and you may be able to score a sketch from one or both as the evening evenings on. *Larry Reid is a promoter who often stops by the FON meetings at the Cafe Racer with a stack of promotional flyers for our group. He's been a Fantagraphics keystone for many years and a fixture in the Seattle "art scene" for many more years."

St. Valentine's Day Cards

So these are the St. Valentine's Day cards that I designed to be shown at the Cafe Racer Valentine's Day show. (see previous post)

What's displayed is just some mounted prints of these designs. The original art is ink, pencil, and watercolor. But they're 50% smaller than these pieces and in my sketch book.

here's a poster I've designed as an advert of my skills and desires to be a rock poster designer. The image was originally designed for a Young Sportsman poster, but due to conflicts in the band it was never officially used. Since it's one striking image, I couldn't help but use it for myself.

Faux Superman Cover

Superman is a registered Trademark of DC comics.

So for my dad's birthday/x-mas I came up with this faux Superman cover. He's a big fan of the Man in Blue and Red. I never did something like this for him so it's pretty exciting.

That's supposed to be him in the background with his new wife Cheryl. My dad is really imaginative and can come up with a solution to pretty much any problem unless it has to do with computers. So I had him come up with something to help Superman fight this beast. Superman a guy who wouldn't normally need help, save for moments like this. I'd like to think that they'd be a good pair if it came down to it.

30 paintings in 30 days

So I've consolidated all the paintings that I've done for the Forgotten Works Challenge into this one blog entry. All the titles of the pieces lead to the comic that each one is based off of from the Lair of the Psychic Creature.

I turned in my painting yesterday on time and that means that I'll be in the grand big show in December. It opens on th 6th and runs for that month. There's a preview show opening this Thursday the 1st of November. That show will basically give people an idea of what each contributing artist does outside the Challenge and/or give a preview of what's in store for viewers in December.

There's a catch to the show in December. It's totally for the folks who crave instant gratification. If you see the show, like something, have the money ($40 no more, no less), you get to take it home with you right then and there. So the show will change throughout the month. However this means that if you want to see the whole show... you need to go to the opening. And if you like any of the pieces, you can't hesitate!!! You have to buy it, because it might not be there when you turn your back.

Don't get too worried though, because I have plans to create a catalogue of the pieces via Lulu.com. I'm hoping to have it layed out and ready for the opening. This will have nothing to do with the hosts of the show and will only be available through me.
